US President Donald Trump is among the key figures scheduled to address the assembly. His agenda includes meetings with prominent world leaders such as Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, British Prime Minister Andy Burnham, and Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi. A significant focus of these discussions is likely to be the conflict in Ukraine, which remains a critical concern for many attending nations.
French President Emmanuel Macron has already engaged in talks with Trump regarding the Russia-Ukraine conflict. Macron highlighted the importance of halting attacks on energy infrastructure and emphasized the need to bolster Ukraine’s defensive capabilities. These topics are expected to feature prominently in Macron’s discussions with President Zelenskyy.
Meanwhile, the conflict in Gaza is also anticipated to be a central topic at the assembly, with efforts towards a two-state solution taking center stage. Irish Prime Minister Micheál Martin is slated to participate in discussions aimed at achieving a permanent ceasefire and advancing peace initiatives between Israel and Palestine.
Another significant issue at the assembly will be Iran’s diplomatic engagement under the leadership of Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi. The Iranian delegation aims to use the UN platform to articulate its positions and advocate for the rights and interests of Iran. While US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has indicated that Washington is open to discussions with Iran, no formal meeting has been scheduled. Rubio reaffirmed the US commitment to preventing Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons as a key objective.
