Investment in Bafana Stars Could Boost Kaizer Chiefs’ Competitive Edge

Tsepo Masilela, a former defender for Kaizer Chiefs, has emphasized the importance of the club signing more established Bafana Bafana players to remain competitive alongside rivals such as Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates. Masilela’s insights suggest that for Kaizer Chiefs to consistently vie for top honors, the inclusion of seasoned national team players is essential.

Highlighting potential within the current squad, Masilela pointed to goalkeeper Brandon Petersen and attacking midfielder Mduduzi Shabalala as talents capable of becoming regulars in the national team. However, he noted that Shabalala needs to focus on delivering consistent performances and increasing his goal contributions to secure a spot in the Bafana Bafana lineup.

Masilela also named Sphephelo “Yaya” Sithole as a promising addition to the team. He believes that Sithole’s role as a defensive midfielder would be vital in reinforcing the club’s midfield strength, providing balance and support to the existing players in that area.

Despite Kaizer Chiefs having already made new signings in preparation for the 2026/27 season, Masilela remains firm in his belief that the recruitment of proven South African internationals is a necessary strategy. In his view, such acquisitions are key to the club’s ambitions of challenging for major trophies.

Ultimately, Masilela’s comments serve as a call to action for Kaizer Chiefs to enhance their squad with experienced national team players, ensuring they have the depth and skill required to compete at the highest levels of South African soccer.
